Hadoop, Map Reduce, Cloud, Appliances, NoSQL, etc. are all making their way into the landscape of the database market and mostly by the database vendors themselves, I guess with NoSQL the exception. I'm not going to debate the value of Map Reduce or the cloud or even NoSQL. Anyone reading this blog is quite aware of Map Reduce and its capabilities. One of my favorite postings on the subject is by a friend of mine Amrith Kumar and found here. So where am I going with this. For Infobright it is all about focus, focus, focus on delivering high value features in short bursts of time for our customer, prospects and partners. We are now into six week iteration cycles here at Infobright with a terrific agile development process in place. Our entire product team which product management, pro services, field engineering and internal engineering has delivered one of the fastest release cycles in the history of the company with our 3.2.1 release with lots of great features being highly requested by our customers. This is the first phase of what we call the Maple Release. We are now going into our next six week iteration with another set of great new features. The good news, we have such an easy upgrade path that it makes it very simple to migrate to new releases when our customers and partners are ready.
When our customers ask about cloud, we say yes and here is how you get us up and running on the cloud, private or public. It's simply not a complicated process and we want to give our customers a choice. When customers ask about Map Reduce, we say "go to town, we like Map Reduce" you can use it the way you want to use it and we have no problems with interoperating with Map Reduce technology just like we have no problem interfacing to other open source and commercial projects that provide value to our customers. We are having a blast here at Infobright building our technology, yes we have lots of work to do but its thanks to our great customers and partners who are collaborating with us to ensure our mutual success. We appreciate it and we will continue to remain very focused and not just do technology for technology sake.
I'm also pleased to announce that after 4 months with infobright, I'm no longer the newbie. It's great to see Mark Burton, our new CEO become so engaged so fast with our business. You will enjoy reading about Marks first few days with us, its a good read and can be found here.

Given current economic conditions there is considerable interest in open source software and whether open source licensing can help users lower the cost of enterprise computing compared to traditional proprietary licensing.
The 451 Group would like you to contribute to its CAOS Open Source Adoption Survey covering end user attitudes to the potential financial benefits of open source. The survey can be found here.
In return for your contribution, you will receive a copy of the research results, which will be delivered in an update to our second Commercial Adoption of Open Source (CAOS) research report "Cost Conscious, A practical guide for understanding and calculating the financial benefits of open source for enterprise IT projects". You will also receive an invite to a special 451 Group Webinar at which we discuss these results.
The survey includes about 20 questions. We are not asking for details of specific projects, so no sensitive data will be revealed. We are asking about the benefits and risks of open source in general, and how you evaluated the cost of open source in any relevant projects. All responses are of course confidential. The survey will be available for the next two weeks, but please complete it at your earliest convenience.
