For your cloud computing ease, I just pushed an Infobright instance onto Amazon's EC2 Cloud.  For those wishing to test out our instance, please note that this AMI fits within the "free tier", so the cost to you is simply nothing.  Plus, I've loaded our carsales database for your querying pleasure.  To get started, follow these simple steps:

  1. Setup an Amazon Cloud Services Account
  2. Open your Account Management Console
  3. Under Images, click on "AMIs"
  4. In the search box, look for AMI ID: ami-5ed42837  (CentOS, Infobright, Carsales DB)
  5. Launch the AMI with your settings.  If you'd like to go to a higher tier, please feel free.

Note that this AMI comes without any support or warranty.  We wanted to give you yet another avenue to witness the power of Infobright's powerful analytic, columnar database.  If there's an AMI you'd like to see, please send me a shout.  We're considering a few other options (different OS, vertical applications, etc.), but none have been solidified yet.

Using Infobright and Talend

In many of our community forum posts, community members ask about ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) tools that work well with Infobright.  As another commercial open-source company, Talend provides a powerful data manipulation and data quality application to help move your data into the Infobright database.  In fact over the past few years, we worked side-by-side as technology partners.  We even publish a joint virtual machine which showcases eachother's open-source offering.

Regardless of the original data source, Talend offers many connectors to pull vital business information and modify it to your liking.  Whether an excel spreadsheet or a MySQL database, Talend provides an easy-to-use, affordable way to get the most out of your ETL.  Plus, (most) everything is done via a GUI; this allows novices and experts to quickly adopt the technology.  Additionally, Talend can work alongside most of the front-end BI tools such as Jaspersoft, Microstrategy, Pentaho and other quality programs.

Over the past few months, Talend released several new versions of their open-source offering.  In the process, the Infobright + Talend connector broke; it's directly (and entirely) tied to the creation of tables using Talend.  Thus, if you're using Talend 3, you will need to use one version of the Talend/Infobright connector.  In Talend 4, you will need to upgrade to the latest version of the connector; this connector will be released soon.  All of these details will soon be published onto our contributed software site.

Finally, you may notice that our Infobright + Talend Virtual Machine is a little out of date.  While ICE 3.4.2 and Talend 3.2 are fine products, there have been many enhancements and fixes since their releases.  Thus, we'll soon be providing an upgraded virtual machine: ICE 3.5.2 P1 + Talend 4.1.2!  Plus, we recently published a how-to video on how to use the Infobright + Talend Virtual machine (regardless of version).  If you still have questions after watching the video, please feel free to ask on our community forums.
