Part III of the continuing description of a specification for a new business intelligence benchmark, The Business Intelligence Performance Index, or BIPI.
Any software that provides performance-enhancing structures of redundant data that must be administratively created in advance of a given query’s execution (indices, materialized views, summary tables, etc.) must provide results both with and without the structures' existence; both results will be combined as a simple average for purposes of creating a total BIPI score. Although this test suite contains specific queries, they have been designed across a large cross-section of usage patterns reflecting the reality that most BI queries cannot be anticipated nor performance-enhancing structures tuned in advance in an analytical BI environment.
Stay tuned for The BIPI - Part IV, The System
