Welcome Back and Introduction to the Web Intelligence Conference in Toronto, 2010

Probably you wondered whether I am still alive… Well, I am. But it was a busy time. As usual, we had a lot to do at Infobright. Also, I came back to my academic work at University of Warsaw. I helped with some European Union research project proposals. There was also some work related to International Rough Set Society and, finally, to the upcoming academic conferences in Malaysia, Korea, and India.
However, instead of going into the details of all the above activities (there will be time for this in the next couple of weeks), let’s focus on the future.
Yesterday I received two interesting messages (message 1 and message 2) about the events to be held in Toronto in 2010. I attach them. The first one is about the IEEE/WIC/ACM Web Intelligence Conference (usually co-organized with Intelligent Agent Technology). The second one is about the Active Media Technology Conference (this time co-organized with a relatively newer series on Brain Informatics). All these events are scheduled within August 28 – September 3. It’s going to be quite a long week!
Although these conferences do not seem to have much in common with databases, it’s pretty obvious that once you’re into the management of some specific kinds of data, you need to combine universal database solutions with domain knowledge. Take for example one of the topics of Web Intelligence:
Web Mining and Farming
-          Text Mining
-          Data Stream Mining
-          Multimedia Data Mining
-          Web Content Mining
-          Web Log and Usage Mining
-          Context Sensitive Web Mining
-          Web Information Clustering
-          Web Page Clustering and Mining
-          Data Warehousing
-          Web Farming and Warehousing
Wouldn’t you expect some special solutions with regards to data models, data types, or even database engines? Wouldn’t you expect some special solutions and practices in data mining (and its relations to database analytics)? I think that you should and I’m sure that many of the ICE users realize it very well in their Web-data-related applications.
So, I guess that August 28 – September 3 will be quite a long week for some of Infobright’s friends too…
Best greetings,
Dominik

Hello jackeichow,

I’m not sure what you mean by helping the government. Please kindly clarify and then I’ll be able to comment.

I’d like to ask about the same with regards to data warehousing. It’s a broad topic, so it’s hard to answer to the question “what data warehousing is all about”. What are your interests and specific areas of applications? What is the context of your question?

Many thanks and best greetings,

Dominik
