Hello,

We are having problems with backup ICE data directory. We are using logical tables for enable parallel load.(Several tables per day). Having plenty of tables result in lots of files in data directory. Our backup software(trivoli) having trouble dealing with lots of small files.

Does consolidating logical tables into one change the number of files in data directory?

If not what is the best strategy to backup such schema structure.

Regards,
Onur

Hi,

The number of files in data directory is dependent on a number of tables and columns. Roughly there are 3-4 files for each column, plus one in BH_RSI_Repository (remember to backup it as well). Consolidating many tables into one will decrease the number of files accordingly.

If you’re having issues within using Tivoli, then consider doing a backup of the ./data directory without the use of a tool.  There are also other backup options available.  For example, DLP within our Enterprise Edition can achieve very high levels of parallel loading as well as load the data into many different databases.
