hello everybody,
just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. my name is Uwe and I work for Swissport International mainly in the areas of dataprocessing, databases, data warehousing and programming (java). I am 44 and have started at the age of 14.
I am happy to have the ability to build up a complete system with databases servers based on mysql using replication, ETL and BI based on Pentaho and DWH probably 
based on infobright.
We do not have such high volumes. although I know that might change once we have the dwh in place. we do have a lot of data piles and complicated processes in place today and users that extensively use excel.
so these are exciting times. as I know most of the parts of the puzzle, I am not very worried that it will work. and then the difficulties are always in the details as we know. but we will tackle them as we move forward.
in my free time I am teaching Linux (based on Edubuntu) at our local school in germany to 11 years old kids and like to go fast with my motorbike.
