Hi Guys,

As per to the BI Flexibility section given on http://www.infobright.org/doc/specifications page ICE is supporting the BusinessObjects. I have never done anything related to BO before. Therefore just to take a look on how I can use ICE with BO I am thinking of doing the following.

1. Download an existing ICE/Pentaho VM and start it on VMWare player
2. Download the SAP BO Edge BI latest installation trial version and do an express install in my desktop.

Now I want to create a sample report from BO connecting to the sampledata database on ICE/Pentaho VM. What are steps I should follow.

Cheers!

StromBringer,

(Is that name from the book “Daemon”?)

I used to work at BO as a result of the Crystal Decisions acquisition.  That was before the SAP acquisition and the availability of trial copies of the software.  I’ll have to download that myself but what I can tell you is that:

1. If you are connecting from Crystal Reports (if it’s included in Edge) you can connect directly to the database with the server (VM) IP address, port number (3306), database name (sampledata), username/password (unless you create new users in ICE, use ‘root’ and a blank password).

2. If you are using any other tool, you will need to create a Universe - connect with the same credentials in point 1. - and then connect to the Universe with the tool.

I am downloading Edge now and will update this posting if I find anything different.  But as this is basically a BO scenario, except for connecting to the database which is explained above, you might find more benefit from the Edge tutorial or BO forums.

UPDATE:  I’m in the process of downloading Edge now but see that there is a Getting Started Guide one can download.
