ICE Product Roadmap

Revised: 6/30/2011

In 2011, several new performance and functionality enhancements will hit the community edition. Starting with the Infobright 4.0 release, users can query the knowledge grid via our newly introduced Select Roughly syntax. We call this feature Rough Query. Rough Query allows users to fire Data mining queries and drill down into large data sets at RAM speed. Plus, users can now add their own domain knowledge to the Knowledge Grid using our Domain Expert technology which debuts in Release 4.0. Here's a breakdown of what's to come in 2011:

1. Infobright Community Edition 4.0 - June 2011

1. Rough Query

In this release, ICE provides the first phase of our in-memory Rough Query technology which allows the users to get instantaneous results by querying the Knowledge Grid in memory. Using the knowledge grid loaded in memory, rough queries provide a range (upper and a lower bound) of possible values within subseconds. By iteratively modifying the query by using the results of a rough query, one can narrow down the subset of data that needs to be queried and reduce total query execution time from several minutes to just a few seconds.

2. DomainExpert

Infobright DomainExpert improves the performance of data compression/decompression for machine generated data. This feature allows you to define the patterns or composition of data in Varchar columns. The database engine then uses this information to (a) optimize the storage of the data and (b) compress/decompress faster, to reduce processing time for queries that use those columns.

3. Query Plan Improvements

As with any release, improving performance of operators will be critical. Group By, distinct, and In clauses will see significant performance improvements.

2. Infobright Community Edition 4.1 - H2 2011

This release will most likely focus on additional updates to Rough Query. In addition, improvements in installation and registration will be a focus

1. Generic Data Type Enhancements

Our DomainExpert will come prepackaged with more generic data types.

2. Installation and Registration Efficiencies

We will continue to improve our overall download, installation, setup, and registration procedures

3. BI Tool/Connectivity

As more BI, ETL, and NoSQL tools become more prevalent, Infobright will look at new ways to connect you to these tools and data sources.
